The Digital Risk Data Base (DRDB) is a geospatial data sharing platform and was developed as part of the Project: Comprehensive Disaster & Vulnerability Risk Profiles for the Kingdom of Eswatini.
The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) through Eswatini Water Service Corporation (EWSC) entrusted RMSI Private Limited, India in 2023 to carry out this analytical study of conducting a Comprehensive Disaster & Vulnerability Risk Profiles for the Kingdom of Eswatini.
The objective of the assignment is to carryout scientific assessment of hazards and risks for selected hydrometeorological (flood, drought and storms), and geophysical hazards (earthquake and landslide) impacting key sectors of the country. Based on hazard and risk assessment results, the assignment needs to identify priority DRM measures and investments which will not only reduce the risks but also help in promoting sustainable Disaster Risk Reduction programmes in the country. The outputs of this assignment will ultimately be used to develop an action plan / investment plan for the National Disaster Risk Reduction Strategy.
The key outcomes of the study include analytical results in the form of reports, capacity building of national and local administration, and development of a data sharing platform. The data sharing platform is a web based geoportal, which acts as a data repository of data and results developed as part of this assignment and enable various stakeholders to access this data for various Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) activities.
DRDB is developed on the World Banks Geonode platform and aid support understand hazard, vulnerability and risk at different administrative levels which are required for DRR investment and preparedness planning activities. The DRDB is designed as a centralized database, which organizes all base data (administrative boundaries), exposure data (population and all assets of the country), hazard scenarios of all key natural hazards impacting the country and their risk related information.
The key features of the DRDB are:
The DRDB is a ready reckoner to understand the hazards and risks in any part of the country. The GIS capability helps user to overlay various layers to visualise hazard and risk of any area of their interest within the country.
